Hotel Snapshot
Think of Zurich, and you’re likely to think of the modern financial capital of much of Europe (and the rest of the world). The gleaming modern metropolis is a bustling urban playground, serving as the jumping-off point to Switzerland’s many beautiful lakes, mountains, and other adventure-ridden locales. But suppose your stay in Zurich involves spending a few nights at the Sorell Hotel Zurichberg, just a 10-minute drive away from the buzz of downtown. In that case, you’ll experience an entirely different side of the largest city in Switzerland—one that will keep you coming back for more.
The Zurichberg refers to what the locals call a hill (but is maybe a touch steeper than that), which rises almost a mile above sea level. And the Sorell Hotel Zurichberg, as the name suggests, is perched right in the heart of this hill, offering a truly unparalleled view of the city below. The drive to the hotel is beautiful in and of itself, winding you up and through wooded roads until you reach the classically designed hotel.
The Rooms
The structure of the hotel itself has stood for well over 100 years, having been initially built in the 19th century. But don’t worry, the hotel has had plenty of updates since it first opened its doors. Rooms are sleekly decorated with the minimalist, modern ethos that you might expect from a posh European city, with warm color palettes and wooden furniture reflecting the natural surroundings. You can choose from a range of different layouts that suit everyone, from a solo business traveler to a larger family looking to stay together; regardless, you’ll have beautiful views and a place to work and relax in privacy.
The Food & Drink Situation
Breakfast at the hotel’s on-site restaurant is included in all rooms, and is not to be missed – in addition to a buffet featuring fresh fruits, yogurts, and Swiss cheeses, you’ll also have the option of ordering freshly-made eggs, pancakes, and more. And yes, there’s absolutely a mimosa bar.
You can also have dinner at the Hotel Zurichberg, where dishes are designed to reflect traditional Swiss offerings using locally grown produce. We’d highly recommend dining outside whenever possible—it’s a magical experience.
The Amenities
Just beyond the check-in desk in the ground-floor lobby is a perfectly situated veranda, from which you can take in the stunning sights of the rooftops below. The juxtaposition of the surrounding greenery (if you’re visiting during warmer months) and the city and Lake Zurich below is only made better by the absolute peace of the hotel’s location (a rarity in a large city).
Location & Neighborhood Recs
The hotel’s location is well-suited for working up an appetite, what with its proximity not only to the downtown area, where shopping and sightseeing abound, but also to some of Zurich’s hidden gems. Head to Zoo Zurich, home to 350 different species of animals and just a short bus ride (or walk) away, or explore the Zurichberg itself on foot or by bike. The hotel offers bikes free of charge that are perfect both for an adventurous jaunt, as well as a ride into the city proper, where you can explore the wealth of museums, shopping, and yes, chocolate.
So whether you’re looking to experience the natural beauty of Zurich or immerse yourself in the fast pace of city life, keeping the Hotel Zurichberg as your home base will allow you to make the very most of your stay.
