The New Aman Rosa Alpina Opens in the Dolomites in Time for the 2026 Winter Olympics

Hotel Snapshot

When Aman owner, chairman and CEO Vlad Doronin first came to Alta Badia, a spectacular region in the jagged-tooth Dolomite Mountains, he stayed at Hotel Rosa Alpina, owned by three generations of the Pizzinini family. First opened in 1939, it was originally a farmhouse that became a hotel with standards high enough to eventually support a three-star Michelin restaurant. Doronin was so impressed that he made Hugo and Ursula Pizzinini an offer and they entered into a partnership.

After a two-year redesign by architect Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston, the new Aman Rosa Alpina opened in July. It masterfully melds the chic Aman aesthetic with the heart and soul of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site near the Austrian border, just in time for the 2026 Milan–Cortina Winter Olympics.

Design & Character

Aman Rosa Alpina leans into the stunning alpine landscape and the wellness it brings: floor-to-ceiling windows open to the fresh mountain air; natural materials (local wood, stone, metal) illuminate as the light changes. In the evening, Il Salotto (the lobby bar), feels like a very elegant neighborhood hangout, with guests and locals chatting and sipping aperitivos by the fire, enjoying live music and watching Enrosadira, the pink and orange glow of the setting sun reflected against dolomite rock.

In addition to Italian and German, the locals, descendants of the Romany people, speak Ladin and embrace their own unique Ladin cuisine and traditions, and it is a miss for guests not to see more of the local culture represented.

The Rooms

The rooms are spacious but perhaps a bit austere, even for Aman. Threading a bit of green through the interior—a plant or flowers from the mountains–would be a welcome addition. Rooms feature walk-in closets with plenty of space for ski equipment, balconies with spectacular views and no superfluous noise, visual or otherwise. The two Aman suites are the largest at 1,700 square feet, and include two king-bedrooms, ensuite bathrooms with steam showers (one with a soaking tub), a dining area that accommodates six guests and a south-facing terrace.

Food & Drink

Wine aficionado Hugo Pizzinini houses his personal collection in DiVino, a private dining room and wine cellar. The Heritage Room, devoted to breakfast, encircles a massive skylight. The Grill celebrates local cuisine and Italian classics, with pasta, pizza, meats and seafood from the wood-fired oven, and the terrazzo is a lovely place to absorb the rhythm of the village. Cigar Lounge has its own mixologist to pair cocktails with cigars, from the mostly Cuban selection. Akari, a new restaurant, will open in December and feature Shabu Shabu, a Japanese hot pot–the perfect winter restorative.

Spa & Wellness

A spectacular spa is always an Aman centerpiece, and the 18,000 s.f. Aman Rosa Alpina does not disappoint. The two-story spa features a 65-foot outdoor infinity pool, several indoor pools, sauna and cold plunge, movement and mindfulness offerings, and fitness center. Spa treatments are rooted in local mountain herbs, such as the Arnica Body Wrap, perfect for apres ski.

Location & Neighborhood Recs

Encircled by the Dolomites, where legendary alpinist and mountaineer Reinhold Messner learned to climb, Aman Rosa Alpina is a perfect base for avid hikers and skiers. When the weather is warm, guests hike or bike in the mountains, and in winter, skiing and ice climbing beckon, with a ski butler ready to help guests navigate to the slopes of Dolomiti Superski.

The charming village features a pedestrian walkway dotted with enotecas, bakeries and boutiques, anchored at one end by a 15th century church. A weekly outdoor market is a good place to pick up local handicrafts, Ladin delicacies and cheeses.
