Cleveland’s first independent hotel opened in the 11-story Baker Building, built for Fidelity Mortgage in 1919. Design & Character
The hotel blends vintage inspiration with contemporary elegance. Designers Curioso and Looney & Associates hint at the building’s century-old heritage by incorporating antique mirrors, brass finishes, and marble and hardwood floors. The charming common areas feature patterns and rich shades of sage, rose, cyan, and gold accented with natural wood and organic textures. Large windows illuminate the gallery wall of curated ephemera and pieces by local artists that reflect Cleveland’s character.
The work of more than three dozen local artists is woven throughout the Fidelity Hotel. One dining space features vivid, hand-painted flowers climbing the walls in a botanical ambiance. Artist Lari Jacobsen painted a detailed mural in shimmering gold, highlighting Cleveland landmarks and local nods (like a leg lamp, stoplight, and Cowan Pottery), inviting guests to engage with the city’s legacy.
The Rooms
Sumptuous jewel tones lend plenty of personality to the 97 sleek guestrooms. Floral wallpaper is complemented by custom furniture, luxurious Bellino Italian linens, and velvet and wood accents. Style meets comfort through thoughtful details like plush Parachute robes, Allegrini bath products, and brass Waterworks fixtures. Rotary phones lend an air of nostalgia to the residential feel of the guestrooms. The atmosphere is inviting, vibrant, and serene.
The Food & Drink Situation
The stylish restaurant and bar are bound to be a downtown destination for locals and guests alike. Club Room, opened by chef Eddie Zalar and now led by chef Dan Young, features inventive takes on regional ingredients. The menu elevates classic Cleveland dishes like the West Side Market Pierogi served on a bed of wild mushroom and black garlic creme fraiche and topped with chives. Relax on a stool at the marble-topped bar or slide into a posh pink velvet banquette in the dining room. The bar program offers wine, local craft beer, and creative adaptations of classic cocktails like the Mexican Martini, made with blanco tequila, citronage, blood orange, lime, and olive brine. Club Room is open for breakfast, lunch, happy hour, and dinner daily. Enjoy a leisurely brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
