At This High Desert Retreat Near Bend, Unwind in Sustainable Bungalows with Private Soaking Tubs

Hotel Snapshot

Set in the sun-soaked and sagebrush-speckled landscape of Central Oregon, Brasada Ranch is a luxury retreat where cascading mountain views meet modern design. Lodging options range from sleek adults-only bungalows to woodsy cabins with private hot tubs and stylish fireplaces.

Once a working sheep ranch, the all-seasons resort spans 1,800 acres with epic hiking trails, cycling routes, and special spots for catching high-desert sunsets. Explore the many natural wonders of the area from horseback rides on trails lined with spiraling juniper trees to scaling the towering basalt columns at Smith Rock State Park.

Design & Character

Backdropped by snow-capped peaks and mounds of silvery sagebrush, the wild terrain here makes this an ideal place to reconnect with nature. From the main Ranch House to the cabins and bungalows, a recent glow up brings mountain chic style to all the spaces. Think earth tones and natural textures that echo the evocative high desert landscape. Some grand details like a monumental stone hearth in the lobby and sweeping terraces evoke the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, but with more understated Pacific Northwest vibes.

The Rooms

For peak luxury, there are 16 adults-only Cascade Bungalows that blend natural materials and Scandinavian design. Each bungalow has soaring ceilings, a sleek fireplace, and a private hot tub. Other perks included access to the adults-only Cascade Pool and a seasonal breakfast basket delivered each morning.

The 65 woodsy Sage Canyon Cabins cater to families, offering two-, three-, and four-bedroom options. All of the cabins include outdoor dining spaces and fireplaces, and some feature hot tubs. There are also eight recently refreshed Ranch House suites and guestrooms, featuring cozy alpine decor and private balconies with stunning mountain views.

The Food & Drink Situation

Led by chef Karl Holl, the culinary offerings here range from comfort food to more upscale fare with wild ingredients foraged from the ranch. For casual bites, the Ranch House serves farm-to-table classics for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with views of the Cascade Mountains.

On the menu at Wild Rye, expect elegant plates with high desert tones from juniper-braised lamb shank to oysters splashed with huckleberry mignonette. Don’t miss the indulgent (but well worth it) Fifty Dollar Burger — an Angus beef patty on a bone marrow brioche bun that’s layered with a slice of foie gras torchon, creamy truffle aioli, and a sprinkling of edible gold dust.

Amenities

Many of the hotel’s amenities spotlight the high desert beauty. Soak up mountain views at the outdoor family pool with luxe loungers and a big yellow waterslide for kids. Or enjoy the serenity of the Cascade Adult Pool, a quiet oasis for those aged 21 and over.

Get sporty on the tennis courts or book a tee time on the 18-hole golf course. Explore the surrounding wilderness on two wheels with a rental from Brasada Adventures (E-Bike, commuter bicycle, or off-road) or cruise in an eco-friendly Ranch Rover.

For the ultimate ranch experience, saddle up and sashay the trails by horse with an expert wrangler. Equestrian options range from scenic trail rides to the morning jingle.

Spa & Wellness Scoop‍

Wellness here is steeped in relaxation and rejuvenation. The spa uses eco-friendly brands including Eminence, Shankara, and Dani Organics. In addition to massage and facials, other treatments include Reiki and marma point therapy.

Rise and shine with yoga or pilates in an open-air studio, or check out seasonal programs like sound baths, guided meditation, and somatic bodywork. For animal lovers, there’s a new equine wellness experience called “What a Horse Can Teach You,” an immersive activity that uses horse-assisted learning to gain insights into emotional well-being.

Location & Neighborhood Recs

Beyond the ranch, check out iconic spots like Smith Rock State Park (known as the birthplace of modern American sport climbing) and the ski slopes of Mt. Bachelor — both are a short drive away. Alpine lakes and pristine rivers can be found in any direction, making it a prime place to kayak, paddleboard, or just perch with a great novel.

Go off-the-grid with Wanderlust Tours, a local guide company with sensational experiences including moonlight canoe tours and forage-to-table dinners. A scenic 20-mile drive takes you to Bend, an artsy mountain town known for stellar craft breweries and cycling trails. Big on charm and full of cute dogs, it’s the kind of town people visit on vacation and end up moving to.
