A Very British Summer: Burberry Takes Over The Newt in Somerset

This summer, Burberry is bringing its signature check straight to the countryside. The iconic brand’s latest move? Teaming up with The Newt in Somerset (one of Britain’s most design-savvy country estates) for a collaboration called The British at Play. Running through mid-August, it’s a perfect checkmate for country cool.

Set against the picture-perfect Somerset hills, The Newt is no ordinary estate. With over 2,000 acres, it’s part luxury hotel, part working farm, all centered around Hadspen House—an 18th-century Georgian manor refreshed with a cheeky Burberry twist. Picture croquet lawns stamped with the beloved Burberry check, golden-hour badminton games, themed sundowners, and picnics so perfectly styled they could be displayed in any fashion spread.

The British at Play is more than just a design refresh; it’s a full-on experience. Guests staying two nights or more can enjoy a quintessentially British escape with a Burberry spin. Afternoon tea, for example, gets an upgrade aboard the Maid of Somerset, a British Pullman carriage decked out in designer trimmings. Sparkling Sprankel, mouthwatering sandwiches, buttery scones, and homemade sweets that hit just right are all part of the package.

When it comes to summer in Britain, nothing beats a classic picnic—especially one wrapped in a Burberry blanket. Guests can pack their specially prepared Newt basket, filled with seasonal goodies from the estate’s farm-to-table kitchen, and claim their spot in the gardens, cider orchards, or beside the lake.

And because no one does things quite like Burberry, there’s even a check-covered hot-air balloon floating above the grounds, nodding to the brand’s early aviator days. Back on land, branded golf buggies zip guests around the badminton courts, which come fully stocked with Burberry racquets and nets. Plus, a pop-up boutique has all the essentials from Burberry’s Summer 2025 collection—think umbrellas, outerwear, scarves, bikinis—because the British weather rarely sticks to the script.

As for the cherry on top: Guests leave with a special gift and a 12-month Newt membership, which means this isn’t just a summer fling—it’s a year-long love affair. The only real question is: Do you prefer to play badminton before or after tea?
