J.K. Place Paris: A Neoclassical Mansion-Turned-Boutique Retreat on the Left Bank

Hotel Snapshot

Occupying a neoclassical 19th-century mansion in Paris’ 7th arrondissement on the Left Bank, J.K. Place Paris immerses guests in authentic Parisian life. It’s a sense of place setting that gives the J.K. brand the devoted following it has. Other locations include Rome, Capri, and Florence, with Milan in the works. I’ve stayed at this luxury boutique property in the City of Lights twice and felt like a houseguest in the sophisticated, yet welcoming home of a dear friend on both occasions. The famed poet and writer Alphonse de Lamartine originally lived here, and you can too, even if it's only for a night.

Design & Character

The property comprises three edifices with white exteriors and is built around an inner courtyard featuring a garden. Florentine architect Michele Bönan designed the interiors, as he did in other J.K.’s, and created a setting that evokes a home or an exclusive members' club rather than a traditional hotel. He looked to the renowned Paris flea market for many of the accent pieces, such as the antiques throughout. He interspersed these with contemporary flair in the way of custom-made Italian furnishings and sleek lighting. This artful blend of Parisian soul and Italian craftsmanship is a hallmark of J.K. Place's aesthetic overall.

The Rooms

Each of J.K. Place Paris' 29 rooms and suites has a distinctive design and feels like a room in a home of your really good friend who has incredible taste. The furniture, both contemporary and vintage, is collectible. Common elements across the accommodations include Italian beds, mother-of-pearl cabinets, parquet wood floors, and large walk-in closets. The bathrooms are spacious and decked out in Italian marble.

Food & Drink

Casa Tua, the in-house restaurant, is the property’s beating heart. It’s the only European outpost of the Italian restaurant that has its roots in Miami and is always packed with a see-and-be-seen crowd. As a longtime Casa Tua fan, I can confidently say that the food here is solid, and the menu is filled with familiar favorites. Call-outs go to the vitello tonnato, a cold veal dish studded with capers and pine nuts, the burrata with tomato confit, clams spaghetti, and sea bass with olives.

For a pre- or post-dinner drink, the Lounge Bar is the place to imbibe on creative cocktails, wines, and spirits. You also enjoy small plates here, like a prosecco-marinated pineapple and quail egg canapés.

Amenities

The property features a subterranean spa that feels and is far removed from the hustle of big-city living. You can indulge in a massage or a facial using products from the upscale skincare brand Noble Panacea. The lower level also has an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and a gym with Technogym equipment.

Location & Neighborhood Recs

The hotel sits on the right side of the Left Bank. That basically means that the Musée d’Orsay, the Tuileries Gardens, and the fashionable boutiques along Saint-Germain-des-Prés are just a short walk away. I suggest looking to the hotel's concierge team, who are in the know, to create a bespoke itinerary for you. Whether you’re a first-time Paris visitor or here on your 10th trip, they’ll find unique ways for you to pass your time and have the connections to arrange private gallery tours and other special experiences.
