Hotel Snapshot
Set along a picturesque cobbled street in Cartagena’s historic center, Casa San Agustin is a refined retreat that’s steeped in Colombian style. Heritage details are complemented by personalized service, authentic flavors, and plenty of opportunities for self-care that foster a warm sense of belonging.
Design & Character
Spread across three 17th-century houses, the 31-key boutique boîte, a member of Leading Hotels of the World, honors the city’s rich past and vibrant present. Original frescoes and centuries-old wood-beamed ceilings sit astride hand-wrought iron sconces and tile accents.
The Rooms
Accommodations—much like the rest of the hotel—serve as a stylish refuge from the buzz of the city. The impeccably decorated spaces blend classic Colombian character and contemporary luxury. A palette of watery hues inspired by the Caribbean Sea mingle with natural fabrics, ironwork beds, and works by local artisans. There are 20 residential-style rooms, plus 11 spacious suites—some even have private plunge pools.
Food & Drink
The self-described “soul” of Casa San Agustín, acclaimed restaurant Alma, helmed by Colombian chef Heberto Eljach, celebrates local flavors with a dash of international flair. The menu focuses on coastal fare, with dishes such as lobster empanadas and fish soup as standouts. The cuisine is enhanced by the indoor-outdoor courtyard setting with live music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. At the atmospheric bar, bartenders shape up refreshing cocktails.
Amenities
The gorgeous L-shaped courtyard pool, intersected by a preserved 300-year-old aqueduct, is more than just a pretty spot to go for a swim. It’s a living piece of history—that just so happens to provide a respite from the baking heat. There’s also a roof deck for catching rays and soaking in the views.
Not all the amenities are on-site. At Acasí, the private white-sand beach on the island of Barú, 45 minutes away by boat charter, guests can unwind under shaded loungers, hang out in hammocks, cool off in the turquoise water or the pool, take paddleboards and kayaks out for a spin, and savor freshly made ceviche, creating an idyllic mix of tranquility and sophisticated leisure that epitomizes coastal Cartagena. If you can’t bear the thought of leaving, premium cabins are available for overnights.
Spa & Wellness Scoop
There’s also a spa for rejuvenating massages, radiance-boosting facials, manicures, and detoxifying sweat sessions in the hammam. Treatments are complemented by wellness-boosting offerings such as restorative yoga and meditation.
Location & Neighborhood Recs
Casa San Agustin is located in the UNESCO-listed Old Town, giving guests almost instant access to the warren of cobbled lanes lined with preserved landmarks, museums, lively bars (grab a drink at Alquimico and El Barón), and excellent restaurants.
