Offshore Montauk Revives the Hamptons Town’s Retro Charm with a Pool, Spa, and Steps to the Beach

Hotel Snapshot

Though for a while Montauk managed to stay true to its laid-back, casual surfer roots, it has become quite bougie in the last few years, catching up with the rest of its neighboring Hamptons towns. But the new Offshore Montauk brings back some of those originally casual, beach vibes in this chic coastal hotel, which opened in June 2025. Formerly the Sands Motel—it was bought in 2024 by Marley Dominguez’s Enduring Hospitality Group for $23.5 million—

This sun-drenched 19,00-square-foot property sits steps away from the beach and within quick drives of many new and old hot spots, including Surf Lodge, Crow’s Nest, Mavericks, Gurney’s, and the new restaurant and late-night club Mary-Lou’s Montauk. With a spa, gym, and alluring pool with a restaurant soon to come, this is a major summertime draw (especially for brands to celebrate and schmooze like Saint Spritz) but will also serve as a peaceful beach retreat in the offseason.

Design + Character

Owner Dominguez told The Hamptons Edit that the hotel “is a tribute to the spirit of Montauk. It’s an escape where guests can create their version of luxury, whether that’s wellness, relaxation, or quality time with loved ones.” Holding on to its Sands Motel roots, its refreshed look is clean, simple, and modern. Think sleek wooden fixtures, crisp line,s and a pleasing coastal palette.  It doesn’t try too hard because it doesn’t need to. Having the beach and pool mere steps away is all you need.

Rooms

Similar to its neighbor down the road, Hero Beach Club, the simple but elegant rooms with generous windows, thoughtful layouts, and natural materials never let you forget you are at the beach. Plenty of storage and surface space mixed in with a bit of bohemian flair, as well as a roomy bed (that comes with its eucalyptus pillow spray), it is the perfect room for taking a break from the beach.

Of the 43 rooms, they have a variety, including beach view rooms on the first floor, ocean view rooms and suites on the second floor with spacious terraces, larger corner suites that can sleep four with two queen-sized beds, and spa condo suites. These will be a welcome retreat after a long beach day, but also allow you to keep soaking in the sun if you want.

The Food & Drink Situation

There is no restaurant on the property (but one is expected to come next year). You will just have to hop over to one of the many great local spots, including Left Hand coffee, Joni’s Kitchen, John’s Drive-In, and Balsam Farms Montauk Market, if you need something quick (also don’t sleep on the nearby 7/11).

For a great dinner, take a quick drive over to Mary-Lou’s Montauk, which Offshore has partnered with. The much hyped Palm Beach transplant has come to life inside the old Ruschmeyer’s venue and has made a major mark after only opening a few months ago. Chef Salvatore Olivella’s wood-fired pizzas, fresh pastas, and citrus-laced seafood dishes are matched by a Studio 54–meets–fisherman’s club interior designed by Maria Calabrese (the pink disco ball shark sums it all up.) The restaurant does offer a membership for VIP service, but is also open to the public.

Other great nearby dining options include the newly renovated Montauk Yacht Club, which has quietly upped its food game this summer with multiple new concepts, Mavericks Montauk, where James Beard-honored chef Jeremy Blutstein and pastry chef Rémy Ertaud are leading a new era of zero-waste Hamptons dining, and for casual but still delicious fun, there is Shark Bar Montauk with frozen tiki cocktails curated by Jarhn Blutstein of East End Mixology. There is also the new restaurant Gigi’s in the place formerly occupied by Scarpetta at Gurney’s. Sea Salt also just opened at Montauk haunt Sole East, featuring another strong and exciting seafood menu.

The Amenities

The pool is one of the main draws for Offshore, with plenty of lounge chairs and cabanas to go around. But you also have the beach right there and the hotel offers beach service, including towels, umbrella set-up, and loungers. There are also free bike rentals on the property, as well as partnerships with vintage Ford Bronco cars and golf carts, which will be available next year.

Spa & Wellness Offerings

Though Offshore Montauk is a hot party spot, it is also serious about wellness. Located in the Spa Condo building just across the street from the hotel, the boutique spa offers infrared saunas, cold plunges, red-light therapy rooms, and a gym (if you aren’t the surfing type).

Location and Neighborhood Recs

The beach is a major attraction, but if you need a break from the beach, restaurants including Mary-Lou’s, Surf Lodge, and Mavericks are close by, as well as the always fun Wölffer Estate.  Great shops are just a walk or bike ride away, including Cynthia Rowley, and if you venture outside of the spa, there are plenty of workout studios like SoulCycle Montauk, which is just down the road from the hotel. In the summer, Montauk is the place for pop-up shops, workouts, and events. Sole East recently did a pop-up with Rebecca Minkoff, and Hero Beach Club hosted  Hampton Volley with Olympian Kerri Walsh Jennings and Dance Body’s Wellness Oasis.

Our Favorite thing about the hotel: Besides the pool and proximity to the ocean, you feel like you are right in the center of Montauk (or rather the end of the world as they say), as everything you want to see and need is right nearby. We also love that it is dog-friendly and the staff is readily available to help, but also not intrusive. The vintage Ford Broncos parked out front also set the tone.
