Hotel Snapshot
Nantucket is a well-heeled summer colony known for its hydrangea-framed cottages, dune-backed beaches, and popped collars. In the middle of it all sits Faraway Nantucket. Mirroring the unpretentious polish and character of the island, while infusing a dash of design-led whimsy, the 62-key boutique boîte is a vibrant gathering place for locals, second-home owners, and overnight guests.
Design and Character
Historic and hip is a hard balance to strike. Faraway Nantucket accomplishes the tight-rope-walk feat, blending New England coastal charm and vintage bijou with a wink and a smile. The design is decidedly ACK (as it should be when positioned in the heart of town), but it also weaves in more eclectic, well-traveled reference points to create something creative and cool that’s far from cookie-cutter.
The Rooms
Rooms are spread across a cluster of old captain’s homes, from the original Robert’s House to the lively Meeting House (social butterflies will appreciate the communal atmosphere). Traveling with kids? Book one of the family-friendly quarters in Gate House or swing for the standalone Federal Suite, which flaunts a kitchen, two patios, and three bedrooms. There are king setups and even quad bunks, painted in green. All guest quarters have curated mini bars, crisp Bellino Italian linens, and Byredo body care products, and Tivoli bluetooth radios.
Food & Drink
Sister Ship, the Mediterranean-inspired restaurant and drinking den, is a vibey one-stop F&B stop decorated to the nines with color and texture. By day, it’s a sunny spot for a boozy brunch. At night, patrons pack into the tables for housemate focaccia, tuna crudo, and seafood paella, and stick around for the inventive cocktails like the signature Faraway Mermaid at the bar. Tucked into the corner of Sister Ship, with an entrance from the street, Cymbals Café serves strong coffee and small-batch donuts to start the day off right.
Amenities
With its ivy walls, shade-giving umbrella and comfy rattan furniture, the ivy-draped outdoor courtyard is the ideal spot for lingering over a latte (and later, The Salty Spritz) or having a chat with travel companions. Cruiser bikes, beach chairs and towels are all gratis—and up for grabs during your stay. Ask about the insider guides to the island.
Location & Neighborhood Recs
Faraway Nantucket is situated in the heart of downtown, allowing guests to access all the fashionable shops and restaurants (go to Black-Eyed Susan's for breakfast, grab a sandwich at Born & Bread, and have a casual dinner on the patio at Brotherhood of Thieves) in a matter of moments. It’s also walkable to the ferry.
